It is easy to carry around a handful of dice. So, the more dice games you know, the more fun you can have with only a handful of materials.

Materials:

6 dice
a pencil and paper for scoring

Game Play:

On your turn, roll all six dice. Set aside any single dice or combinations of dice that you would like to score. You may either end your turn and record these points or re-roll dice that you did not set aside. You must score points each time you roll and re-roll, or else you lose your turn and any points you had acquired on that turn. If you are able to score all six dice, you may re-roll all six dice once and add the score of that roll to the total score of your turn. This bonus roll is called a sweep. If your sweep does not score any points, you lose all points acquired on that turn.

If you have any non-scoring dice when you end your turn, your opponent may choose to roll those non-scoring dice, i.e. steal and continue your turn. If your opponent is able to score any of your “left-over” dice, he/she copies your score plus that roll. If you did not have non-scoring dice or if your opponent does not want to take the risk of not scoring with your left-over dice, he/she begins his turn normally by rolling all six dice.

This game is a race to 10 000 points.

Scoring:

a single 1 = 100 points
a single 5 = 50 points
three 1s = 1000 points
three of any other number = 100 x that number
four of a number = 2 x the score for three of that number
five of a number = 2 x the score for four of that number
six of a number = 2 x the score for five of that number
three pair = 1000 points
a straight = 1500 points

Example:

you roll 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 3
set aside 1 and 1 and re-roll the rest (you could keep the 5 as well)
you roll 2, 2, 4, 2
you set aside 2, 2 and 2 and end your turn
your score = 100 + 100 + 200 = 400
your opponent rolls your left-over 4
if he/she rolls a 1, he/she scores 400 + 100 = 500
if he/she rolls a 5, he/she scores 400 + 50 = 450
if he/she rolls 2, 3, 4 or 6, he/she scores 0

Notes:

be wary of sweeps. Taking a sweep could end up in your opponent copying your hard-earned score, plus a little bit.
rule variation: you may not begin scoring until you can record a score of 500 or more points.
