I’ve been reading a bunch of English graphic novels translated in to French. This was my first read-aloud of an French graphic novel. And, of course, that is a different vibe. Really enjoyed it.
This week, Ness and I gave a talk at the Relatorium, an online seminar. It was a rehearsal for our upcoming presentation upcoming presentation at Bridges. The slides and video for the talk are available here: The Art of Braiding Algorithms.
While looking up Corita Kent, I learned the delicious verb “to plork.” It means to play and work simultaneously with a slight emphasis on play. A lot of the string figure stuff that I can be described as plorking.
This week, I got deep in to plorking the Milky Way + Flock of Birds string figure complex. These are two figures, from different cultures, that “cancel out.” The weaving sequence of one is exactly the inverse of the other.

A twelve foot long branch fell right in the middle of our garden plot. Thankfully, only one pumpkin plant was directly hit and seems to have survived. Outdoor gardening is so wild compared to indoor gardening.
