Week Notes 76: Test Anxiety

This post is 75 of 75 in the series week notes.

It has been a hard week. Every day at school drop off, I see fewer and fewer kids. The start of fall wave of sickness is upon us. As I type this, I’m hacking and coughing.

I went for my G2 drive test and it was super cursed. The car battery was dying on the morning of the test. When I got signed-in for the test, I parked in the completely wrong spot and missed my appointment time. My driving instructor came to save me and told me reversed directions for how I should park. It was cursed.

When I made the first turn of the test, there was a large truck blocking my view. As soon as I made the very first turn, I failed the test by pulling out in to a cross-walk with a pedestrian on it. Ooops! It was a learning experience – to put it lightly.

The real lesson for me is how powerful test anxiety can be. I feel so much sympathy for my students who are freaking out about their first tests. I totally feel their concern about going to the wrong test room, writing the wrong formula, etc. Test anxiety is a real thing and it is intense.

I did a bit of tablet weaving. Getting the warp setup is such a pain, but the weaving itself is quite fun to do once everything is setup. I asked around at various places to see if anyone could lend me an inkle loom. The Textile Museum of Canada got back to me with a lovely response.

Thank you for reaching out to the Textile Museum. It’s really nice to hear about your experimentations with tablet weaving. We do have an Inkle loom, and it is already warped for tablet weaving. You are welcome to come by the learning hub in the Museum to try it out.

The W3 Validator is a neat thing. I think I might add it to my footers. Although, so far, I have dutifully avoided adding buttons.

Can you imagine typing on a machine with a half-horsepower motor and gas fired pots that immediately converts a line of text into a solid metal slug?
