Recently, I got wondering if writing week notes inhibits spontaneous blogging. For the last year or so, my writing on this website has been very regular. I mostly write week notes.
Of course, the week notes not perfect. It seems that lots of things just neatly files in to them. Sometimes they run a bit long. The list of topics that I write about is pretty much dialed in at this point: General, Parenting, Reading, Writing, Playing, Gardening, Links. Sometimes I need to interpret “Playing” rather broadly. Sometimes “General” gets a bit over crowded.
As a result of writing week notes, I don’t often feel like writing something short “out of the blue” on my blog. I don’t write spontaneously. This feel likes it is counter to the spirit of blogging. Does it matter if my blog doesn’t fit the spirit of blogging? The Meta Blogging page has a bunch of information about how other people view blogging. It might be worth checking what they think.
The (personal) value that I get out of writing weeks notes is that they provide a nice rhythm. It is pleasant to have a zero-friction place to dump things. Just, perhaps, I am missing some spontaneity because of dumping everything in to the week notes.
If you write week notes, or like reading people who do, what do you think about spontaneity versus regularity?
