How do you determine the participant’s number? Start a running total. If the participants says “Yes” to a card then add the first number on that card to your total. Here is a worked example with the relevant parts of the cards highlighted.
Suppose that the particant selected the secret number 9.
The participant will answer “Yes” to cards $A=1$ and $D=8$.
Your running total will be: $1 + 8 = 9$.
