The Folk Process and Yahtzee

Years ago, when I was an undergraduate, Megan and I were big board game players. We read up the rules for Yahtzee online and wrote out our own little score cards on paper. We really liked it and played it lots and lots. We’d scribble the scorecard on napkins at bars. After several years of this, we saw a family of a ferry boat playing Yahtzee. They had the official score cards. And they were playing an ENTIRELY different (and much easier) game than we’d been playing!

This is a nice example of the “folk process” whereby games, songs, and stories change in people’s hands.
