Seedy Saturday 2026

We went to a Seedy Saturday event at the Evergreen Brickworks. It was a blast. We donated a big bunch of pumpkin seeds and a handful of packets of white bean seeds. We also brought some old houseplant pots that are free to a good home. And we took home a tonne of seeds!

I’ve written elsewhere about the super-abundance of nature. Seedy Saturday feels like such a golden example of that overflowing abundance. There were so many seeds. And people were so excited to share them. As we were leaving, an enthusiastic volunteer followed us to give the girls pink envelopes full of wildflower seeds.

Recently, I’ve been reading about anarchism. And in that world, people talk a lot about mutual aid and sharing. As I was reading, I kept rolling my eyes and questioning the lack of examples. Seed exchanges are such a good example of this sort of behaviour!

And now that I’m thinking about it, the seed exchange felt very close to a zine fair in spirit. There was definitely a sense of camraderie, chatting people up about their projects, and a shared love. Perhaps a little zine/seed-packet about pumpkins is in order for next year?

We were so stoked about gardening that we went and checked on our garden plot. Let’s just say that the weather is nowhere near ready for planting. Mira needed to squeeze through the door to get in and fetch us a shovel to dig the door out.
