We had an intense health scare this week. My wife, Megan, had severe vertigo on Wednesday morning. It didn’t seem to be improving by noon, so she called Telehealth (811) and they suggested that she go to the Emergency Room. A few hours later, she got the news that it’s probably inner ear related. She was prescribed some betahistine, which seems to help.
My students were incredibly forgiving of my added scatter-brained-ness. It was very humanizing for them to see me at such a stressed out time, worrying about my wife.
Inner ear stuff can be trick. It’ll go away quickly, or incredibly slowly. A while ago, I had a eustachian tube malfunction which made it feel like there was always water in my ear. Once a doctor told me that it wouldn’t get infected, and wouldn’t impact my hearing, I got used to it. The issue lasted for about eighteen months. Hopefully, Meg’s inner ear stuff resolves itself quicker.
This week is the start of midterm season. As such, it’s an especially “intense” week teaching because students are concerned about the content of the midterms. The midterm season will continue for the next three weeks at least.
I dusted off a project that has been on the back burner, so to speak, since summer 2023. I decided to massively slash the scope of the project with the aim of “finished” rather than “perfect”. One aspect of bringing the project off the back burner was digging up the notes on it. Lots of people prefer digital note taking systems, but there was something especially magical about looking for a paper note (with a known location) and finding it there.
A huge milestone in the Baza Legolisto project: the last two books of the prose section came in via interlibrary loan.
This means that, in principle, I have either paper or electronic copies of everthing on the list. Now, there is the small matter of reading all of it. And after this list, there is always the poetry list.
