Week Notes 35

This post is 35 of 35 in the series week notes.

General #

It’s Reading Week and that means that I’m not in the class room this week. Teaching faculty (and other students) use Reading Week to catch up on all their work. For me, it’s a lot of polishing up solutions, drafting term tests, and such.

Reading #

I read an absolute tonne of Sed Nur Fragmento and continue to absolutely love it. The main character, the anthropologist, is fighting back against the colonial powers that be by conducting scientific autopsies on indigenous criminals to show that there is no physiological difference between indigenous people and Europeans. Totally boss move. Scientifically deconstructing the colonial logic.

Writing #

I finally sent off a fresh draft of Jayne in Brief. It was great to get it out there, “in the aether” as we say. Getting it online was a whole mess, as detailed below.

It seems like a lot of writing about writing. I’ve set myself a writing goal for November of finally writing a piece (for academic publication) about seminar. We’ll see how that shakes out.

Playing #

The main event this week was Halloween. We got the girls dressed up as a “white fairy” and a “dark witch”. They loved it. We had some friends with similarly aged kids to come over and celebrate Halloween with us. Absolutely wonderful time. On the day after Halloween, we went to a “Pumpkin Parade” where the whole neighbourhood brought their pumpkins for display, and eventual disposal.

The pumpkins we grew at our community garden plot.
