This post is 48 of 48 in the series week notes.

I read this Wikipedia page Onifim and it has “fl. c. 1220–60” as the dates. I didn’t know what “fl.” abbreviated, so I moused over it and got the clarification: “floruit (flourished – known to have been active at a particular time or during a particular period)”. That just felt so tender and sweet in this context.

This week, we rushed to finished the paper before the Bridges deadline. I don’t usually write according to any external deadlines, so this was an intense experience: “Ack! This has to get done by Friday.” It is neat to run a course in this way because the student and I are both bound by the deadline; we’re both facing the same time pressure. I like this version of things because we are facing a common challenge instead of the usual “professor challenges student”-dynamic.

It’s fun and I am trying to make it the thing I reach for instead of my phone for baths, quilting, workouts, making my eggs.

My set hacky up is a bookmarklet that copies a command to my clipboard that I can quickly paste into a command prompt. This calls a bash script that calls a python script.
