Overthinking Blogging

It’s really easy to overthink blogging.

Should you censor yourself and only talk about nice things? Professionally relevant things? Should you post about your family? How should your run your blog? Should you use a nice platform like Bear or use a static site generator like Hugo? If you’re setting up your own site using something like Hugo, there is endless room for fiddling. You can add backlinks, or little status updates, or fancy micro-blog posts. I call all of this “fooling with tooling”.

What about week notes1? Or link lists? What about getting started with #100DaysToOffload? Should you setup a secret RSS only club? Here are 100 things you can do on your personal website. Are you worrying about doing all of them?

You could write a post.

It’s easy to overthink blogging, but you don’t have to. Keep writing, keep posting, and you’ll find a good groove.

  1. How does that fancy plus ⊕ button work? It seems to only show up on mobile. See, it’s so easy to go down a rabbit hole looking at other pages. ↩︎
