Reference Letters

It is always intimidating to ask professors for reference letters. I’m committed to writing to good letters for strong candidates that I know well and have some familiarity with. To help ease you through the process, I have listed some requirements for students that I write for:

• Ask me at least two months in advance.
• List all the schools or programs that you’re applying to.
• Describe why you want to apply to those programs.
• Describe how you know me, and why you’d like me to write a letter for you.

When you e-mail me asking for a reference letter, please include all the information listed above. Given my background, I can only write reference letters for people applying to certain programs:

• Masters or doctoral programs in:
  • Mathematics
  • Computer science
• Education programs:
  • Masters of education
  • Bachelor of education
